Hengtong Chen (b. 1973, Shenyang, China) is an artist, live model, and performer whose practice is rooted in presence, duration, and embodied stillness. Trained initially as a mechanical engineer, his non-linear life path informs a singular artistic sensibility where structure meets inner perception.

Through live modeling, drawing, and emerging performance-based practices, Chen explores the relationship between body, time, and sustained attention. His work emphasizes endurance, precision, and a quiet intensity, making him particularly suited to long-duration poses, performative installations, and research-driven artistic contexts.

He has worked as a live model for Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang and with independent artists’ workshops. Chen lives and works between China and France.

Profile
Artist, live model, and performer with a background in mechanical engineering.
Hengtong Chen brings a rare combination of technical rigor, bodily awareness, and sustained presence developed through both industrial experience and long-term artistic practice. His singular perceptual and cognitive profile informs a deeply focused, grounded, and enduring approach to live modeling and installation-based performance.

Hengtong Chen — an artist of stillness, slow time, and quiet precision.

Hengtong’s work is not about expansion or spectacle. It is born from limits he lives with, from a deep caution toward chaos, and from a steady, almost fragile calm that he nevertheless sustains, day after day.

Trained as a mechanical engineer, he turned inward after life’s shocks and found a new discipline in drawing, engraving, and live modeling. The result is a practice where form, repetition, and presence are anchors—keeping the body and the viewer both grounded.

His singularity is simple but profound:

  • a mind that stays with one line, one plate, one pose for hours;
  • a body that offers stillness without theatricality;
  • an attention that tests time rather than rushes through it.

This is not an art of frenzy. It is an art of containment, endurance, and inner order. It trusts that meaning can come from the smallest marks, the quietest gaze, and the long duration of careful work.

Because of who he is—and how he lives—Hengtong is especially suited to longduration poses, to performance or installation settings where time is the material, and to researchdriven artistic contexts that honor subtlety over spectacle. His calm is his claim; his limits are his method; his art is the proof.
