The Chemin-Vert foundry was created in 1835 by the Plichon brothers, Jacques François Alexandre and Hilaire Pierre, to meet the needs of the navy and the railroad for high quality cast iron parts. The foundry was rediscovered by Bruno Monnier, president of Culturespaces, who had the idea of creating a digital art center in Paris. After major works, the Atelier des Lumières opens its doors to the public.
